40 year old virgin [24 Aug 2005|04:53pm]
[ mood | curious ]
[ music | Guo Mei Mei - Lao Shu Ai Da Mi ]

Yesterday i had dinner with Sharlene at BJ's and we decided to watch a movie afterwards. We looked around for something good but we saw most of the movies offered around westwood already. We walked a little further and saw two movies we havent seen: Skeleton Key and 40 year old virgin. Since the former was being shown at 9pm and the latter was showing at 7pm (pretty much right when we got there), we decided we'll take a chance and watch 40 year old virgin. It turned out to be a SUPER HILARIOUS MOVIE! HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA. I think everyone and their moms should go watch this movie. It's hilarious and there's a love story in it too.

In other news...Chem153B is going awesome! the midterm is next monday but i already know everything. HEHEHEHE. Mike bought the video game Soul Calibur for Gamecube. Pretty good game. Robert beat me even though he's a noob. HAHA i love that word now. Mahalia showed me this internet tv show about this Canadian gamer and he wear's a t-shirt that saids "i pwn noobs".

So last saturday i stayed overnight at bryant's place and helped install his new Radeon 9200 video card. Now counterstrike finally works! But the LAN doesnt work so we couldnt play against each other. In the morning i cooked bacon and eggs (bryant has yummy food in his fridge!) and gave some bacon to bryant's dog Hershey. Hershey chewed up Bryant's slipper and bryant abused the dog to discipline it :( Bryant slapped the dog across the face with the slipper and chased the dog into a room where the dog cowered in the corner. Bryant then punched the metal filing cabinet and the dog was more scared. Then when the dog slowly came out, bryant kicked him in the head. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA JK about the kicking part. Later on i was messing around with the dog; i was pushing the dog and trying to annoy it by taking Pedro the Dog (hershey's stuffed dog buddy) and pushing it into his face but the dog was so scared of bryant (who was in the room) that it didnt move or make a sound. Awww. Hershey is actually a very spoiled dog. He gets some pretty good food. And he even has his own little bed and a bunch of chew toys. Plus a large backyard. On sunday he gave me a ride back to ucla and then we hung out at westside pavilion with charming. The week before that bryant and charming pulled a prank on me while we were eating at Lu's Garden. I TOTALLY KNEW THEY WERE KIDDING but i just wasnt 100% sure. So i guess i didnt TOTALLY know. Oh yea! Last last sunday (before eating at Lu's Garden) i went to the movies with Michelle, Melody, Marsella and two of their friends. We saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (not actually that good; annoyed by oompa loompa's) and we played arcades. Then bryant came and drove me and MMM to old town pasadena to shop around. Michelle is taking a business class at cal state la where she formed a group to buy stocks and best group wins a trip to new york. I told her to buy Cisco but its only been doing mediocre. Anyone have any inside info? =) Today i went out to eat with sharlene then we went to third street and then the pier to ride the ferris wheel and lounge around. Biochem is finally starting this coming week. I hope i will do well! Im gonna milk all of Robert's biochem knowledge. HEHEHE. More update later. Must play my unreal tournament demo.

So my fluid mechanics class is actually really interesting! The homework problems have been very doable and i think im pretty far ahead of the class =) Combinatorics is so-so and i could do better in nonlinear dynamics and chaos. Anywho, robert and i just got back from ralphs which is located across the street from us. We're about to play mario kart, so short update here! Still playing kings of chaos. Im ranked 34,000 now but my spy ranking is 10,000 HEHEHE ima sabotage everyone! HEHEHEHEHE. Had dinner with Sharlene today at Islands. I had the hawaiian and she had the mushroom. I had thought about some other places to go, but ended up with this one after Mike gave me his input. I guess going to a familiar restaurant can be better than trying some new place. I tried to switch our plates of food to make myself seem like i ate more but sharlene had to switch them back haha. The new apartment is beginning to look pretty good. We still need a couch and i still need to get a bed (currently sleeping on the famous Swedish mattress on the floor). Two days ago me and my roommates played basketball at Wooden. Unfortunately we had to play against this group of fuckheads. Jamie is a pretty good athelete even though he's kinda short at 5'7. Almost done downloading episode 40 of Bleach. This will be my first time watching this anime so hopefully i'll like it cuz there'll be a lot more to watch (thanks to James, who gave me a copy of the bleach mangas!). Carolyn has visited me at my apartment a few times :) Thanks for coming Caro! I'm glad you enjoy my daddy's food. Zina, you need to come over too; you will be well fed ;) Hey so i need a bday gift idea for sharlene. Anyone has any ideas? I might just go with the harry potter guide book.

Ready to go home in an hour =) I can finally study and get some work done. I got 81 on my combinatorics quiz so thats pretty good. Wednesday night i ate dinner at Yen and Chris' place. Yen cooked pork chops and bok choy. He also had a tofu dish and some another dish with bean sprouts. After dinner we watched Chris play World of Warcraft. Caro stayed over that night; sleepover was fun! Hey Caro remember our little secret? HAHAHAHAHA good times. On thursday Caro and our summer sublet Jamie (econ major and nice guy) and I went to Miss Sixty on melrose. Caro got this uber expensive shirt! Jamie and I just sat in their comfy chairs. The Miss Sixty store was ultra modern and had bright yellow plastic on the walls...purty. Right when i got back Sharlene picked me up and we had dinner at this Indian restaurant. We were the only ones inside - good or bad? I think that was good because we had a nice conversation. We both ordered the nachbar curry and naan (bread). Naan is some pretty good bread - crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Living in my new apartment has been pretty fun so far, but mainly because school hasnt been very intense and ive been out a lot. Hopefully we can get all the furniture moved in and get some more daddy's food. Update more later!

Summer school has started :( The week off from the end of regular school to the start of summer school was a lot of fun. I went to bryant's house a lot to play bball. We managed to reassemble his basketball court by ourselves. It fell on us once but we caught it and used our superhuman strength to get it back up. We lowered it so we can dunk on it =) Norms has become our new hangout place. Their steak and eggs make for a pretty good breakfast. The first week of summer school was pretty tough. The lease for my new apartment doesn't start until july 4th so for the past week Robert and I have been living with Alex and living out of Robert's lab. Wednesday night we snuck into Ackerman Union and slept in one of their lounges but we got caught by the manager near opening time (he let us slide though). Bryant gave me a ride home thursday and drove me back to school Friday morning. It was refreshing to be at home sleeping on a real bed. Unfortunately Robert had to run some more experiments and couldnt come with me (but he went home wednesday night). Bryant and I went to eat in J-town at this place called Mr. Ramen. It was empty when we went in but the food was good and they had pretty large portions. Yesterday Sharlene gave me a ride home since she was headed towards Monterey Park for a family reunion barbacue. She got a job working on the UCLA History Project (documenting the history of UCLA) and she pretty much works 9 to 5 which is a lot tougher than my schedule. Her family is really interesting; she's 5th generation chinese american so her family has a long history in this area (her dad went to AHS.The classes im taking are actually pretty easy (fluid mechanics, combinatorics, nonlinear dynamics and chaos, and biochem). Hopefully that math minor im working on will help me become a better engineer. I need to prepare for the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam in April. So Bryant and I are writing THE BOOK. THE BOOK is a special book. It will be an awesome book. Hopefully we will complete THE BOOK soon.

BoA's new album [16 Jun 2005|02:10pm]
BoA is coming out with a new album!! :) :) :) Read this article:

Boa Kwon

Singer BoA has revealed her first image wearing a traditional Korean costume, called a “hanbok,” designed specifically for her by acclaimed hanbok designer Lee Young-hee. The singer donned the costume during the photo session for her new album’s jacket that took place on June 9 in Gangneung, Gangwon Province. Gangneung is the hometown of Sinsa-imdang, a historic figure who is revered by many as the ideal Korean woman. The purpose of the attire was to stress BoA's Korean nationality.

"By featuring BoA wearing a traditional costume, we wanted to create the most Korean-like image for this girl, who turned 20 this year. We also wanted to show her with a completely different image from the one she has established so far by performing Western music, and to mark her coming-of-age. That is why we shot the photos in Ojukheon, the hometown of the ideal Korean woman Sinsa-imdang," said a person from BoA’s agency, SM Entertainment.

BoA also recorded a remake of the song “Autumn Letter,” without accompaniment, in Ojukheon. The music video of the song, which will be included in her fifth album, was also filmed in the town; it features BoA as a woman who misses her lover. BoA is the first artist to write a remake of “Autumn Letter,” which was originally written by folk songwriter and singer Kim Min-ki.

Photos of BoA wearing the hanbok will be published on the cover of her fifth album entitled “Girls On Top,” which is due for release on June 22.

16-Year-Old Rules Asian Pop Market
By Lee Yong-sung
Staff Reporter

"BoA has earned over $1 billion in Japan so far through her 15 releases, two regular albums, nine singles and three special albums - a figure that can be compared to the annual sales output of a decent business corporation."

I HONOR YOU BOA [12 Jun 2005|02:28am]

Today i have finally achieved one of my goals in life that i never thought i could ever achieve. Just a few hours ago Wobby and I were at the Hallyu Concert (hallyu = "korean wave"; BoA + 2 boy bands performing) at universal city walk and we saw BoA perform live. We had awesome seats; 6th row. The tickets i got for the two of us only cost me $222.50 Best money i ever spent. This was the first time ever that Korean pop MEGASTAR BoA has ever performed in America. She was a last-minute add-on to the Hallyu concert so it wasnt announced that she would be at the concert until only 3 days before the concert was to take place. The second Robert heard about it on boafans.com (which he checks daily), we immediately went online and bought tickets. I still can't believe i actually saw BoA in person. She was really actually there in front of my eyes. I feel pretty damn lucky to have seen her because i doubt many people knew that she had been added on and would be performing (because at the concert no one had a BoA sign...from the makeup of the audience and the response it was clear to both Wobby and I that 95% of the audience had gone to watch the boy bands and bought the tickets before they knew BoA would be there). If people had known from the beginning that BoA was there those tickets would have disappeared within minutes. We got those tickets 2 weeks after they started selling. I feel sorry for all the people who didnt know that BoA would be performing or who couldnt get the tickets or plan in time. Im certain a ton of UCLA people are huge BoA fans and would have killed to go to that concert. I think Wobby and I were prolly the only UCLA people who were there. Last time BoA took part in a Hallyu concert, hundreds and hundreds of people actually flew overseas from japan, taiwan and china just to see her (and they were very angry because a lot of the tickets were accidentally double sold and after a two hour delay the concert was cancelled). I don't know when BoA will perform again in LA. This may have been her only performance in LA or maybe even her only performance ever in america (at least as the youthful BoA we all know and adore). I think BoA is at her peak right now in terms of singing, dancing and sentimental value. Seeing BoA perform at 21 wouldnt be the same as seeing BoA perform now at 18. Wobby and I used to say how we would have to fly to japan or korea just to see BoA perform. And if we ever had the chance to do that it would probably be several years from now and it wouldnt be the same because BoA would be different (not the 18 year old BoA we saw tonight). Since it was a performance in america, the concert hall was a smaller one (6000 people) and the tickets were relatively cheap ($100 to $40). If this was a concert in Japan or Korea the tickets i had would have been worth triple what i got them for. Boy was this a stroke of luck...i couldnt have predicted this would happen. Just days before the concerted was to take place we heard about it, got tickets, went, and WAM BAM THERE IS BOA RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF ME. *smiles* And now to her performance...it would be an understatement to just say her performance was great. It was beyond great. Her performance was spectacular. The most spectacular thing i have ever seen in my life. No, even that is an understatement. It wasnt just sensational in terms of visual and audio, at least not for me. The performance itself was incredible, but knowing that i was actually getting the chance to see her live, and knowing that this will probably be the only chance in my entire life that i would experience this, made her performance the greatest experience of my life. She sang My name, My prayer, Spark, Rock with you, No. 1 and Valenti. She had all these new dance moves too that i havent seen before. I stood there fixated on her...i tried to not think of anything else for these precious minutes and just absorb all that i could. What a wonderful moment it was. Those hallyu people got ripped...i woulda paid a THOUSAND DOLLA'S to see that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wobby and I were seated to the right side of the auditorium and BoA walked over to the right side, stepped all the way to the edge of the stage and waved to all of us. And then she pointed at ME. Most people would think she just pointed at the audience in general, but no, she pointed at ME specifically. I INSIST SHE POINTED AT ME DAMNIT. There was no one sitting behind me and the girls who were sitting to my left had walked away to do something (they were there for the boy bands). Plus i was pretty damn close to her i could see the sweat on her face. So it was just me and wobby and some empty space. She was looking at the crowd and then she pointed at me, as if to say "i choose YOU derek; YOU are my biggest fan!" and at that moment, even if it was just for that one moment, she acknowledged my existence. She probably chose me because i was holding my hands together like i was praying or something and she saw how much i appreciated her :) She didnt go to the left side hehehe *feels special* probably because she had already found where her biggest fan was sitting ;)Before the concert was the Miss Korea beauty pageant and after BoA performed there were two boy bands, one band i think was named TBSK and the other band was G.O.D. They were actually pretty good, but they both paled in comparison to BoA. The crowd was hysterical; girls and guys screaming and shouting and throwing stuffed toys on stage and holding up signs and waving their hands. Well, finals week is this week so i need to go do some studying. More on BoA later. Good night people. And good night to BoA, the greatest SINGER, DANCER, PERFORMER, and ENTERTAINER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

once again its been a long time since ive posted and a lot has happened. Friday night was the ACM end of the year dinner. All the officers went to buca di beppo in santa monica (i think there were 14 of us). We ordered all kinds of food like pizza, pasta, salmon, garlic bread, calzones and mussels. I think i ate half of the mussels :P (the club was split into two adjoining tables and we were competing to see which table could eat more mussels and i think we won :) We spent $300 on food but it was all paid for by the club. Afterwards we went to Jason's place to play Donkey Kong (a gamecube game where you have bongos and you have to hit the bongos according to what they give you; kinda like DDR). More club members came and they had lots and lots of drinks since Jason has his own bar. In the middle of the party we all gathered around so Adam could hand out these certificates that he had made for each officer. Each certificate was unique to the person. Mines said "in the course of his duties, he showed humor and vision, both essential qualities necessary to make ACM a success." He then gave everyone a little present that best represents them. I was given a dancing robot since im known best for my dancing skills. Chris was given a spongebob square pants toy because he is about to fill any role, like the way a sponge can fill itself up with any liquid. Tony was given some GI Joe soldier since he's the behind-the-scenes workhorse of the group. Other gifts included a superman mug and a light bulb (cuz Kay has bright ideas!). Afterwards we happened to split into two groups, each group in its own deep conversation. I started out in the nerdy group with myself, chris, adam, shaun and chris g. We started talking about the purpose of living if you were 80 years old and had accomplished everything in life. Shaun wanted to know what would drive you to get up out of bed each day. But this conversation started moving in other directions and eventually we started talking about K-theory (a.k.a. string theory) and that there are more than three dimensions. But another group formed (which contained all the girls!) and they started talking about breasts. So I and a few other guys eventually migrated over to this better group :P Kay was saying how she goes to the suana at the wooden center and she'll see other girls topless and then she starts describing their breasts and how you can tell if breasts are fake. After that it was pretty late (around 2am) and everyone left for home. Chris gave me a ride back to alhambra in the morning, right in time for tutoring. Pretty good party. I've been going out a lot more lately. I went with Sharlene to farmer's market and the Hammer museum. Last week we went to this well known burger place called the Apple Pan (established 1947). The wallpaper there looked like its been there for decades. Everyone sits in a big counter around the kitchen just like in the movies. The night Star Wars episode 3 came out mike and i waited in line for 3 hours and watched the midnight showing. I thought Star wars was pretty incredible and im not even a huge star wars fan. So, over summer and for the next school year im gonna be living with Mike, Robert and Alex (robert's former roommate). We'll be living at Tiverton, which is right across the street from Ralphs. For summer im gonna be taking math135a, mae103, math113 and chem153c. Im gonna make WOBBY help me with biochem! Thats all i can think of for now. Hopefully ill have more time to update soon.

SO! The awesome ACM social that i set up with off without a hitch. One of my engineering classmates in ee142, diana li, is in this a capella group called Random Voices. They were hosting the CA A Capella Festival last saturday and were gonna throw an afterparty and invite the other singing groups from around CA that attended the festival. So she got Triangle to lend their frat house but they needed a DJ. That's where I stepped in and offered a Dj to them free of charge. The DJ i got was Brian my lab mentor. Everyone said he was really great. But the thing is, getting them the DJ got ACM on the guest list but anyone could have just IM'ed diana to be on the guest list...so we didnt actually get anything..hmm.. Anyways, Adam, Kunal, Chris G, Shaun and Jenni showed up and we all danced together. Jenni is one mighty fine dancer. Shaun, Adam and I started imitating everyday things like *sprinkler*, *shopping*, *covered in ants*. That's how i dance! Jenni must have liked my moves...she copied the *sprinkler* and *shopping*. Shaun has gone hysterical with my "assholeshiet" joke. He said he told it to this ethics class. Ive been tutoring this guy John (from ucla) in mcat verbal and biology. It's going okay although im not really getting paid as much as i should. Ive heard of friends who get $20.00 an hour to tutor little kids. Last night i tutored this guy Joseph in College Physics (with calculus) for 3 hours for $50.00. And that wasnt kid stuff either - electrostatics, circuits, and other complicated and annoying Electricity/Magnetism stuff. Joseph's dad (a doctor) wanted to keep having me tutor him on a consistent basis so i'll have to see if i can fit him in. So far i have 7 students who i charge less than the average (although some have been with me for a long time and give me things besides money and i really appreciate them as friends). So i guess for the new students ill be getting ill charge more. Not that im greedy or anything...just that things you do should be worth your time right? Anywho, winnie got all these coupons for CVS and she's been getting a ton of free stuff. Naruto has gone up to episode 125 with the sand ninjas saving the leaf ninjas in their battle against the Sound 4. Gaara is just about to fight Kimimaro. I have a ton more BoA videos courtesy of Robert. I like "quincy", "my name" and pretty much everything else. Saw Jo ann friday by Young. Even tho i havent really talked to her this school year, i dont particularly miss her. But i guess i'll give her a call since she requested i do so. Melody's science fair is coming up soon. The project idea i gave her is entitled (from what i remember which is vague) "Practical Applications of Electromagnetic Theory." I designed an electric motor for her dad to build (he's a really good electrician). Its something pretty much anyone can build. You just need some paperclips, wire, magnetic wire (prolly something only melody's dad or someone like him would have), a D size battery and some other minor things. Anywho, Diana and I make great partners. We both do 142 homework together and study for the exams together and we really make good progress. Hopefully we'll have ee161 together next quarter. She told me to sign up for it since she's taking it but then two days ago she told me she couldnt get into it cuz it was already full. Well im sure ill do just as well without her in it except that with her i would be on track all the time. This probability class im taking is really confusing and tedious. I wish i could drop it and never have to take it, but i guess i gotta rough it out. More updates later when i think of more stuff.

Wow its been a really long time since i last updated. I survived my 4 EE and 1 Biochem classes last quarter. ACM is doing well. I finally got a social event going - ACM and IEEE bball tourney. Couldn't have pulled it together without Mimi's help. ACM lost the game. After we reset the score to 0-0 we eventually lost the game 13 to 8. ACM was represented by Adam (the president), Akhi (faculty liason), Chris (career advisor) and myself (the social chair). After the game we went and ate at In-n-Out. Those IEEE guys were way bigger and better than i had anticipated. Adam and chris played pretty hard; akhi and i just stood on the perimeter. Now going back...Sallie organized a JC get together for new years. Three JC presidents were there: sallie, jeremy and myself. Tiffany and Allen and Jessie also went with us to go eat. They were the only people that i knew there. Afterwards some of us went to my place to play cards and drink. Brenda came over too (hey she's engaged now!). I really miss my jc buddies :*( Thanks to Sallie for setting things up. The big thing thats been taking up my time lately (and preventing me from updating) has been studying for MCAT's. Yen, Chris and I are well on our way to finishing all the studying in time. There's 2.5 months left and i just need to worry about the ochem section and finishing up the workbook. This quarter i should have time to do all of that because my schedule is pretty ordered. Plus i finish ee142 homework with diana every tuesday night. Diana is awesome...she's really smart and nice and SMART! I bum philosophy notes off of Caro...Thanks Caro you're a lifesaver. Speaking of Caro...class, when i choose to go, is the only time i get to see her even tho she's my sister's roommate. We need to workout together! Last sunday i balled with Chris, his cousin and his friend. We lost the first two pick-up games and chris said we werent gonna leave until we redeemed ourselves by winning at least once lol. Luckily we got a game going with these three really ultra short guys. Since i was the tallest on our team i guarded the tallest guy on their team and he was like 5'4. The other two guys were, by my estimate, 5'tall only. Even tho they were short i was unable to get any blocked shots. I wish i could. I love to block shots. HAHAHA ben wallace is da man. So there is nothing to do at Dubinett's lab anymore. I still visit sometime to see Brian tho. I havent been to church since right before winter break. I guess ill try to go sometime, but with MCATs edging closer and closer, it is unlikely i will have the time. Currently downloading episode 120 of Naruto. I know its gonna be a good episode because 119 ended right as Naruto and Kimimaro was about to go at it.

Its been a couple months since i've updated this thing. I still don't have internet at my apartment and i don't intend to get internet anytime soon. Esther and i have been keeping in contact even though she's back in Taiwan. Hopefully she'll be able to come back to America when she graduates. I'm gonna get a phone card from Chris. I bet that 40 minute phone call cost Esther a ton of money. I hope she's doing well in school. It makes me happy that i can keep in contact with her. Anywho, school is going really well. My 5 classes are a breeze. Especially since i go to all the lectures, discussions and office hours. I think i'm gonna do pretty well this quarter. In other news, lab has been pretty fun. Chris and I talked to Dr. Dubinett and he said he's assigning us to a lab person so we can get published in time for med school. He even mentioned that when the time comes he will write us a letter of recommendation for med school. Chris and I study mcats every weekend now. But i still go to church with brian on sunday. I've been going with him since summer. Church is pretty cool; we go out to the mall and to eat after church. Now i must ball! Hopefully i can update again soon

summer update [30 Jul 2004|05:49pm]
wow its been a long time since i've updated this thing. Chem30bl and ls4 is going ok. I have chem lab and ls lecture at the same time so i never go to lecture :*( The professor (bacher) won't let me switch sections. Chem30bl actually isnt that bad. The prelabs take a lot more time than the postlabs and Boonta, our TA, is a very generous grader. Last wednesday was our last lab. I'm actually gonna miss lab cuz there were some nice people in there. I worked next to this one girl named Amber. In this lab you're supposed to work by yourselves, but Amber and I helped each other out a lot and we'd always joke with each other and make funny comments. We waited for each other if one of us were behind. And we would get enough reagent for the both of us. One time I was 2 hours late to class because i had to take my ls midterm so i was really behind. I caught her putting my filtration setup for me :) That was very sweet of her. The TA insists on calling her by her last name, Foster. She'd say something like "Foster what melting point range did you get for your sample" or "Foster can you help these people with the IR machine." Yup...Amber Geneivive Foster. She's a cutie (and a chem engineer too!). Anywho she's graduating this summer so its bye bye to Amber. In other news, research in Dr. Dubinett's lab is going pretty well. Chris and I have memorized the protocol for purifying the RNA and assaying it. We are now working with a new guy named Brian Escuardo. He's 24 and graduated in 2001 with a degree in physiology. He just got married in June :P Brian is a really cool funny guy and he said if i wasnt there in lab with him he'd die of boredom lol. We went to the eighth floor to get coffee one time and this super cute girl walked in to make a fresh brew. I had a tough time thinking of something to say to her but Brian started talking to her and he kept giving me openings to say something to her but i couldnt really capitalize cuz im shy :( Anywho, her name is Jaime and she just graduated with a degree in psychology and now she's working as a lab technician. She's gonna take the MCAT in april just like me. Brian told her "hey derek here tutors the MCATS." He said that so i could have a chance to spend time with her LOL. He said that would motivate me to study mcats more. Jaime has cat eyes i think. Those really sexy cat eyes. She was soooo fine that after she left brian and I hung around the floor some more to catch a few glimpses of her. So yea, MCATS! I've been studying MCATs with Nancy. I sat in on one of her Princeton Review classes in Ackerman from 4 to 6:30 ish. The teacher was named Chris and he was a chemistry graduate student and a TA. He taught us all the chemistry lab techniques that we would need to know for the MCATs. It was very helpful and im glad Nancy encouraged me to go. She said i wouldnt get caught hehe and i didnt. They have kids from other centers walking in to makeup classes so Chris probably thought i was from another center making up a class i had missed. Nancy told me that if he asks me where im from to say that I was from the West LA class from 7:30 to 10 and that i wanted to get done with class earlier. After class nancy and I walked to the new CVS pharmacy to get beef jerky and TGIF chips (shaped like cheetos). She signed up to get a CVS card and she gave me one of the small ones for your key ring. Now i can get a discount :) Then we walked back to her apartment where she cooked me dinner (and lunch too earlier in the day). Thanks nancy! (the day before i also went to her place to study MCATs and i ate dinner there). Nancy is so nice. She registered to take the MCATS in august but i convinced her to get a refund and take it in april instead. She said she's not prepared enough to take it in august so i said "then dont!" But she said her friend isnt prepared either but is still taking it in august to "get it over with." I told nancy that's not the attitude you want because the MCATs is the most important exam of your life. You need to be completely prepared for it to have a chance to go to medical school. So Nancy and i are gonna take it together in April, along with james jen. Brian took his mcats already and he's been applying to a ton of med schools. He told me he spent $7000 on his applications and he spent $400 just at the post office. My sister just told me that my ExamCrackers MCAT has arrived. I spent $120 for that 5 volume set which totals 980 pages. That, along with the Kaplan books im getting for free from william tsoi (who got a 37 his first try) and the Barron's book from the library and the Princeton Review books im getting from Brian should be enough books to study from. Also, James bought a ton of AACM and KAPLAN exams (with solutions) off of ebay for a really cheap price. He burned them on a cd for me to print out for the both of us. Its 1500 pages total plus he's getting even more! Man this MCAT business is gonna be long and hard and expensive. But worth it. My goal is to break the 40 barrier. I've never heard of anyone who has broken the 40 barrier, but im gonna do it. I'll be the first and im gonna do it on my first try. You guys just wait and see ;) Hey no one thought i could get 4's and 5's on those eight AP's i took senior year but i did. In other news, i bit both sides of my tongue and the left side is pretty bad. It hurts a lot when i eat. Hopefully dad will have some medicine i can take for it. But i think it'll heal quickly enough. Last night Robert and I went with Zina to the Westwood Arcade and then to Boba Loca. Robert and I have been going out a lot at night to Ralphs and Boba Loca and Lollicup and also the buck fifty burrito stand. Something to do...at Ralphs we always get strawberries cuz its cheap (epecially when they had the sale for 97 cents a pound) and yummy. We've come up with a lot of funny "material" like stuff about the BigAz burger, bushisms (jub jub jub!), elements of a bad meeting, people's reaction when you do a drive by on them, shitting on yourself and diapers, funny things about bacher, weight surveys, and more. Zina didnt seem too amused by most of our material but the drive by one got her! hahahah i knew it would. Everyone loves that one. And of course my imitation of Bush ... "jub jub fub jub!" Zina's toenail was blue cuz she stubbed her toe badly on her tub :( I think my biting my tongue is worse though. Man only one week left before Cathy leaves. That makes me sad because i wanted to get to know her better. I guess there's still time to talk to her a little bit before she leaves. Okay time for me to relax and then try to eat. More updates later!

first day of summer school [28 Jun 2004|02:38am]
today (or yesterday, rather) i moved into my new dorm room. I got here about 11am and found that i was living in room 1006 in dykstra, which is the called the Penthouse since its at the highest floor in the building. The view from the 10th floor is fantastic, especially from my room. I can see downtown and everything. My sister moved in a few hours later, assisted by her friend Gigio. She's living down the hall from me in room 1042 i think. My roommate is a guy named Dennis. I dont know how to spell his last name cuz its some unique phillipino last name. He's a pretty cool guy; i think we'll get along just fine. Bobby (karen and jo ann's friend) is living in 1003 so we'll prolly be hanging out together. We went to shower and the showers in dykstra are pretty weird. Well i guess i think its weird cuz its so different from the showers in the other dorms. These showers dont have that extra stall space for you to put down your clothes and stuff on the bench. In dykstra the stall is very small and the shower is right inside. You have to hang your clothes on the bar above the stall door. It doesnt even have a place for you to place your soap. Anywho bobby and i finally figured out a plan of attack and was able to get in and out of the shower without incident. Then bobby and I, along with his roommate, went to diddy reese. I bought 6 cookies and an ice cream sandwich. I dont particularly like the cookies but i bought it so i could share with people. About two hours after i moved in a girl came to my room. I was playing Penny Tai songs and she walked in and said "hey you're playing taiwanese music." Her name is Cathy and she's from taiwan. She came to america a year ago and just finished her freshmen year at the University of Washington. She will be here for six weeks, but will be in the los angeles area (living in anaheim) all summer. We listened to some music and watched some music videos and talked for a while. She left but returned a few hours later to talk some more. She's pretty cute and really interesting; hopefully i will have time to hang out with her :) Anywho, my sister is in my room right now. She came over to hang out and eat my diddy reese cookies. I would eat them except i already brushed my teeth. Now she is eating them outside. I guess she doesnt want to bother my roommate who is sound asleep. I shall go join her now. More about summer school later. Good night people!

summer vacation [25 Jun 2004|03:46am]
this is pretty much the last weekday of summer vacation for me since i have summer school and im moving back to the dorms this sunday. I will be taking three life/physical sciences classes and one philosophy class. I just looked through my grades...only three came out and they were A,A,C. Good ol' C's hehehe. On tuesday i had jury service and i had to arrive at the court building by 7:45. I was there for about two hours; i learned that i had been chosen to be a juror in a trial in another court building so i had to go home and return to that courting building wednesday at 9:30am. So wednesday i go there and the judge asked us who here could not stay for the entire 8 week trial. I think about 25 of the 30 or so jurors there raised their hands and we were all dismissed! Yay! i was only there for an hour. I got my receipt for my juror service today. Jury duty isnt bad after all plus i got fifteen bucks for being there two days. A couple hours ago i went with winnie, eva, jeffrey and jerry to applebee's where we ate buffalo wings and nachos. We just sat there and talked for a long time. 90% of the talk was about relationships and stuff like that and 10% was about basketball. 2 years ago the conversation would have been 50% basketball and 50% girls (in a very superficial way). All i gotta say is that girls are the most complicated things i have ever encountered. More complicated than an engineering math problem lol. They are, at the same time, the sweetest and cruelest creatures on this planet. Most men, like myself, are simple creatures who try to treat girls the best way we know how. Anywho, i've been listening to this song by Penny Tai called Ni Yao De Ai (the love you want). Its a pretty good song and i have it on repeat. Today dad and kyrie watched music videos with me. We watched BoA, S.H.E. and jolin. Then we listened to some old school teresa teng songs and some vietnamese songs (tinh xot xa, which was kyrie's favorite). I saw this asian chik in a chinese magazine...her name is Monica Lo and she's in a new movie with Steven Seagal. He still looks like a dork but Monica Lo was HOT. Oh yea Penny Tai is hot too. Jolin is also very hot. All girls should look like them, hot hot hot. Man i sound like a chauvinist pig, but what can i say? Im a guy. And those girls really are very hot. Anywho, this summer i'll also be working, researching, interning, lifting, and trying to snag the girl. Eyes burning from lack of sleep...tomorrow getting porcelain cap on tooth replaced. Good night world!

[ music | K-Ci & Jojo - All My Life ]

Wow its been a really really long time since ive updated this thing. A lot has happened since. Today is memorial day so its the last day of a three day weekend. I hung out with karen most of the day in her room. We ate candy (Skor) and chips and drank some tasty Nantucket Nectar while we watched the NCAA Women's College World Series (ucla def. Cal 3-1) and the Lakers/Wolves game (lakers advance to NBA Finals) and the Giants game (barry bonds hit a homer his first at bat). I had a really good time hanging out with Karen. We talked a lot about baseball and such. Now one thing i gotta talk about before i forget...UCLA ALL HILL FORMAL!!! it was really awesome. It took place May 15 and it was called Midnight Masterpiece and it was held at the UCLA Armand Hammer Museum. It started at 8pm and ended at 1am. Both my sister and I went home saturday so we could be in Alhambra to meet up with jeff and eva. Jeffrey and Eva and my sister and I got ready after i finished tutoring (it started and ended early...11 to 4:30) and after Winnie finished doing her makeup (thanks to Sara :) I had planned for the four of us to leave for UCLA at around 4:45pm but things got held up. But it was all good. We piled into feefee's car and drove to Costco to pick up some chicken for our dinner before the dance but they were all out. So we drove to Popeye's and got chicken there and ate chicken in the car on our way to winnie's apartment. When we got there we rested for like 10 minutes then started getting dressed. I had on my black suit and black dress shoes and a burgundy dress shirt and i wore jeff's olive green/silvery looking tie. The burgundy dress shirt looked pretty good i thought. Thanks to jeff for the tie that really matched! Jeff had on his dark blue suit, white dress shirt and a burgundy tie. Jeff's skin is lighter than mines and in our group picture he looks really good with that dark blue suit. Wangoes had on a black dress and Eva had a red dress. Both of them did their hair. Eva did winnie's hair at her apt. She did a really good job. My tie took forever to put on...jeff and winnie both went at it for a long time...i think it took jeff 15 minutes to get it on me. The problem was i didnt know how to do a tie and its hard for someone to do a tie on someone else's neck. Winnie's date met up with us at 7:30. His name is Tim. He lives next door to Winnie...he's turning 23 and will graduate this year. Elin met up with us at my sister's apartment too. She wore a very elegant and simple black dress. She had highlights in her hair that she did a week before. I thought she looked stunning. I gave her her corsage, which was made up of three pink roses. Elin, Jeff, Eva and I went in jeff's car while my sister and her date went in her date's car. First we drove to Sproul turnaround to meet up with Tiff and Allen (in Allen's truck). Then we all went to Hammer and got underground parking. I dispersed the 10 tickets amongst all the couples. I wanted to treat everyone to dormal but sneaky Allen slipped money into my suit jacket pocket without me knowing :P Tiff and Allen made such a cute couple. I loved the way they interacted with each other like taking those photos of each other doing silly stuff...i am so envious! Anywho we decided to quickly grab a VIP table (i bought 10 tickets and whoever does gets the VIP package which includes a free single use camera, a pack of orbit gum, cut-in-front-of-the-line-for-group-pictures ticket, and glowsticks) and take a bunch of pictures before the lines got too long (ticket doesnt apply to couple pics) and before we got too sweaty from dancing. We took a group pic of myself, elin, my sister, her date, jeff, eva, lisa, and jerry. Jerry was his usual self, dressed very well for his ladies ;) I thought lisa's dress was very nice. She had on a white dress with blue flowers all over it. Very very nice. Her corsage matched her dress...yup lisa was in her usual very cute form. Couple pics took only a nanosecond so we were all done very quickly. We went back to the table to eat some snacks (vegetables and crackers with stuff to go with it and drinks) and then we vamoosed over to the dance floor. I felt kinda bad cuz i wasnt a great dancer and i guess that didnt work well with Elin since she's a very very good dancer. Most of the time i felt like i was just standing there watching her dance instead of us being a couple dancing. I felt like i was clouding around her and i guess she felt the same too since she pretty much went solo while i was thinking that we were dancing as a couple. Winnie's date was a complete dud. He refused to dance...he just sat there at the table. I felt sad for winnie cuz she was hoping for a good time. Elin tried to persuade Tim to dance, but to no avail. Mike and his gf Mahalia showed up at our table at around 9:30pm. Mike had on his grey checkered suit and red shoes. You might think that would look weird but mike pulled it off. His girlfriend had on a more conventional red dress which looked really nice on her. The DJ wasnt that great so we didnt really dance as much as you'd think. My sister and her date was gonna leave at 11:45pm and Elin was tired so the three of them left. The rest of us stayed until 12:30am then we left to avoid traffic. We parted ways with Tiff and Allen. Before we did we took a bunch of pics. Eva and Jeff and I went back to winnie's apt where we dressed back in regular clothes and just hung out for a while. All in all dormal was really excellent. I was really pleased with the outcome. Group and couple pictures came out really good and everyone had a good time, all things considered. The only sorry thing from dormal is that i havent spoken to Elin in exactly 2 weeks stemming from a misunderstanding that has to do with dormal. We used to talk to each other every day and go eat dinner and hang out and stuff. Havent done that in a long time...at first i thought i would think of her as a really good friend, but over time she started growing on me (know what i mean?). Oh well guess its just too bad. Anywho, that's how dormal went. Hope i get to go next year. Thanks to Jeff, Eva, Allen, Tiffany, Winnie, Tim, Mike, Mahalia and Elin for being in my group. After dormal everything went back to normal day to day living. Nothing much to talk about...school coming along okay. The college bowl idea fell apart cuz not a lot of people had the time to go to three full meetings. Oh yea one piece of good news...i joined ACM and im the social chair. All the officers are guys (all members are officers right now) so that's bad cuz we wanted to post photos of the officers on our board in boelter (5th floor in busy hallway...prime spot...big big board). So we're trying to get as many female members as possible. We are giving away positions to all girls who join. If we dont have positions left, we'll make positions. Jo ann has agreed to join. That's pretty cool. This club is cool cuz no one is obligated to do anything. You only take on as much responsibility as you want. So it is very flexible around everyone's schedules. Plus even though this club's main purpose is to code and create programs, there's lots of stuff available for non-programmers to do like planning social events and competitions and all that good stuff. Everyone has some skill that would be very very beneficial to ACM. Also ACM is willing to teach people who dont know how to code to code. :) Gotta get some studying done now so ill write more about this later. Bye bye everyone.
